Studio109 is an online post-production audio service run by Jel Legg, a British music producer with the able assistance of vocal producer Julie Legg. We specialise in remote audio mixing for independent artists on tight budgets, extracting stems from older recordings and improving mixes where the stems are not available. We also provide audio restoration and basic mastering to improve recordings when unmixing is not possible.
The studio has existed in one form or another for nearly 30 years and is home to our own band OLDER so we are rather attached to it! In recent years we have helped local artists with mixing and production but now AI is making great leaps forward in extracting stems from mixes it's finally possible to improve treasured older recordings. We are currently based in the Waikato but work with clients nationally and beyond.
Jel Legg - Music Producer
Jel started out his musical life as a gigging and recording bass player & still relishes the sound of a Rickenbacker being played hard 35 years later! He handles your audio repairs, restoration, unmixing, mixing & post production. As a Producer he has worked in many genres from Alt Rock and Indie Punk to Trance and Pop and, if requested, can bring fresh ideas to your arrangements during mixing.
He thrives on mixing home-recordings and taking them to the next level using his many years of experience between studio monitors and his comprehensive range of professional studio tools. Equally, he loves the satisfaction of salvaging old recordings using the latest technology and a 'forensic audio' approach.
He is happy to share insights, knowledge and advice on how to improve your recordings - all wrapped up with British sense of humour!
Julie Legg - Vocal Producer
Julie brings the kind of experienced ear to vocal production that only capable singers with natural good pitch have, and Jules is a very good vocalist.
As a song-writer & recording artist (not to mention a professional voice over artist), Julie has a particular and uncommon talent for checking and fine-tuning layered, multi-part harmonies and can help ensure the vocal post-production of your track is the best it can be. Far from being a case of 'press the magic auto button' Julie has developed the skills required to correct tuning issues with minimal artifacts.
Once your mixes, or re-mixes are ready for delivery Julie, with fresh ears, also helps to answer the fundamental question 'Is this new mix an improvement on the original, not just different, but measurably better?' Think of it as a quality control process to keep Jel on the right track!
